PINHOLE CAMERA

Finally I finished my pinhole camera. It is a shoe box. Inside I've spray over using black mat spray. I did cut small rectangle in the lid. I did cover that hole with silver foil. Using a needle I made a tiny hole in it. Then I made piece of cardboard to cover whole rectangle. In Dark Room you meant to put light-sensitive paper, sticking very well, to the bottom of the box. After you did put the lid on you meant to stick black electric tape around it, to make sure there's no light sources coming through. Tomorrow I will try it to take some photographs. Can't wait...

SPLIT GRADE PRINTING

Split grade printing is when we use two filters, normally number 0 and number 5, to make fine black and white prints. First we print tester with filter 0 to check the right exposure time. Next we expose to the light using filter 0 with choosen time. Then we expose to light again but using filter number 5 with different exposures time to make a tester. We print the photograph and we are choosing on with which time we would like to expose using filter number 5. Last step, we expose first with filter number 0 and then with filter number 5, and we can print now. Here are my examples...

SANDWICH PRINTING

Sandwich printing is a technique created by putting two negatives  into the film carrier of the enlarger and printing them on one sheet of paper as one image. I will try this tomorrow in Dark Room...

MIMIC SHOT

Part of our assignment for Photographic Techniques is to take a mimic shot. First is the photograph which I've been trying to mimic. It means not to copy, but trying to look at the technique, object etc.

DODGING AND BURNING

We have chosen photograph, which we like it. But our print is still not perfect. Sometimes we would like to make some parts of our image brighter- called dodging and some parts darker-called burning. When we are dodging, we are trying to block some areas of the print for part of exposure time. When we are dodging we are giving more exposure on some parts of image so they coming out darker on the final print. On first photograph you can notice that the sky is completely white. By burning this part of the photograph the clouds became visible.

FILTERS

Few weeks ago in the dark room we’ve started  using different filters to change the tones of images. Higher number of the filter shows the contrast between black and white, there is no grey color anymore. Using lower number of the filter  we can see more details on the image (dust, clouds, etc.). Here are my photos of this same object using different filters.
